Car wash benefit set for baby

A car wash Saturday at the Hixson Pep Boys, 5428 Highway 153, will help with medical expenses for a local child born with serious medical issues.

According to family friend Callie Michael, 6-month-old Brynlee Thompson has been diagnosed with MPS 1 Hurler’s syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Medical sources indicate the condition is marked by progressive deterioration, with life expectancy not exceeding age 10. Though there is no cure for MPS 1, according to online sources, there is new interest in treating the condition with gene therapy.

According to the family, Brynlee faces a bone marrow transplant, chemotherapy, enzyme replacement therapy and other treatments.

Saturday’s car wash and other fundraisers, including a poker run Aug. 7, will help with her medical expenses and for her family’s travel expenses and absences from work.

Donations also are being accepted for Brynlee at Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, Account 148175, 5150 Austin Road, Hixson, TN 37343.
