Long-delayed Resaca Battlefield Historic Site set to open

Victory is finally in sight for a group leading the charge since the early 1990s to develop a park at the Resaca Battlefield.

In ceremonies scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday, May 13, the Resaca Battlefield Historic Site is set to open just off I-75 at Exit 230, just miles from the site where the annual battle reenactment is held.

Here, Friends of Resaca Battlefield officials Ken Padgett, John Guider and Tony Patton inspect the park’s interpretive signage.

There are several miles of trails throughout the 540-acre site, most along the ridgelines where entrenched Confederate forces met Atlanta-bound Union troops led by Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman in May 1864.

A pavilion is located about halfway up the valley with restrooms and picnic tables.
