This week’s health department restaurant scores are in, and although there were no failures, Big River Grille has some big issues with roaches.
The restaurant, located at 222 Broad Street, scored a 77 health score this week. Roach activity was present in the restaurant, including an infestation of roaches in dry storage.
Any score below a 70 is considered failing.
Big River Grille was also cited for a soiled rag left on a cutting board and prep area, a box of gloves in the prep area, debris on the floor and a “lack of sanitation.”
Two restaurants scored lower than Big River Grille: The English Rose and Taqueria Antique Guatemala, which scored 76 and a 70 respectively.
Taqueria Antique Guatemala nearly failed because it didn’t have the proper bleach for a three-compartment sink, the sanitizing compartment was soiled, raw food was stored over cooked food, food was stored on the floor and directly under the hand sink, and a compartment sink wasn’t being cleaned daily.
At The English Rose, an employee was observed garnishing soup with their bare hands. The inspector found that the English Rose also had issues like knife handles laid on prep/cutting board, debris buildup on the floor, cracks and holes along baseboards, food sitting on top of cold holding counters and the date marking missing on several items.
