Hullander best qualified as trustee

I am voting for Bill Hullander for Hamilton County trustee because I know that he is the best qualified to fill the position.

Bill has served on the County Zoning Board of Appeals for 10 years, and he was elected to the Hamilton County Commission seat in District 9 in 1998.

Mr. Hullander is dedicated to his family and has a strong faith in God. He has proven to me in the years that I have known him that he is honest, has great integrity and a love for life. He is always one of the first to respond to the needs of others.

Join me and vote for my friend, Bill Hullander, for Hamilton County trustee on Tuesday.

Fields would best serve District 2

My husband and I will be voting for Jim Fields on Tuesday.

Jim is running against Richard Casavant for Hamilton County Commission, District 2.

We need a commissioner who is going to think about the people instead of thinking about how to take our hard-earned money away from us.

Jim Fields has said he will not raise taxes because there are other ways to raise money. Mr. Casavant, if you had listened to your voters, maybe we wouldn’t be trying to get you off the commission.

Voters of District 2, get out Tuesday and vote and elect Jim Fields for County Commission of District 2.

Bill Hullander is fair and just

I ask the people of Hamilton County to vote on Tuesday for Bill Hullander as trustee.

Bill Hullander is a man of good judgment, fair and just. He is always willing to help no matter how big or small the problems may be. His years of service to his community and county have been the one factor that shows the kind and thoughtful man he is. He will be accessible to the public and he will be sure that he and his staff can provide assistance to the needs of the citizens of this county. He will accept and meet all the challenges that are presented to him. This is the perfect time for Bill Hullander to serve and the first step to improvement is the supporting votes of the citizens of Hamilton County.

Cast your vote for Bill Hullander, Hamilton County trustee, on Tuesday.

Oakley will offer solid leadership

Days have passed since the last election for this County Commission seat. In the past things were done, but our long-time commissioner is seldom seen in the district, he says he stands on his record. If you are elected you should be out in your community. He says we may call or see him at “his office.”

I support Laura Oakley for the District 1 commission seat. Laura demonstrates active leadership and concern for our district. She is an educated businesswoman, a founding member of the North Hamilton County Chamber Council and co-chair for the Rails to Trails project. The chamber is a civic club for business leaders raising funds that benefit community projects; the city builds roads and puts in traffic lights and such.

If you want a leader who will be out among you, answer your questions with a professional attitude, a local business owner who has a child attending Soddy-Daisy High this fall, and a professional who can represent and discuss the problems we have in this district, then choose the Republican primary ticket as no Democrat or Independents are running. Remember the name Laura Oakley for solid, professional leadership. Vote on Tuesday.

Editor needs course in logic

The Free Press editor ought to read more carefully what he writes. Or think more carefully through his ideas. Or both. And then he might want to consider a refresher course in logic.

In Tuesday’s lead editorial, the editor refers to the District of Columbia where “strict gun control is practiced.” And in a parenthetical aside, he mentions that crime “nevertheless remains extremely high” in D.C.

Implying that crime might be reduced if guns were not controlled is a logical fallacy and misleads the reader who is not alert to such 1st-grade reasoning.

It’s ironic that in the same editorial, the editor begins his final paragraph with “We believe it is wrong to link two totally unrelated issues…”

Fields has wisdom, sound judgment

I want to encourage residents of Hamilton County District 2 (Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain and parts of Lookout Valley, Red Bank, Falling Water, Riverview and Stuart Heights) to vote for Jim Fields for County Commissioner in the Republican primary on Tuesday.

I have known Jim for over 25 years. He is a true conservative who will provide leadership for fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency in county government. He is honest and hardworking. He is intelligent with practical wisdom and sound judgment. He has a long record of service to the community and can be counted upon to get a job done and to do more than his share of the work.

The commission has, for many years, treated tax increases as the default solution to every problem. If we ever could afford that approach to problem-solving, we certainly cannot now. We need new representation. Jim Fields is the best choice in District 2.
