For only the second time in the 16 seasons the Chattanooga Lookouts have played at AT&T Field, they’ll enter the second half of their Southern League schedule already assured of a playoff spot.

So it’s time to put things on cruise control, right?

“Nothing changes,” said Lookouts first baseman and left fielder Max Kepler, who leads the league in hitting. “We’re going to go out with the same mindset every day.”

The Lookouts claimed the North Division first-half title with a 43-25 record, closing with 14 wins in 16 games. The first-year Class AA affiliates of the Minnesota Twins open the second half tonight in Montgomery.

Chattanooga is 34-14 since May 1 and 7-1 since the big-league promotion of center fielder Byron Buxton, but more can be done, Twins player development director Brad Steil said.
