Why did the smart folks who run General Motors ever think they could make money by manufacturing the Hummer, a sort of “giant-size” Jeep-type vehicle on steroids?
With GM’s once-popular Pontiacs and once-leading-selling Oldsmobiles having “faded away,” now GM is abandoning the Hummer. It fascinated some, but too few, its peak sales being 71,524 in 2006, with sticker prices ranging from about $43,000 to $63,000.
Does Hummer have a future? Amazingly, it is reported that GM is selling the Hummer brand to — surprise — Communist China’s Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Corp.
GM’s loss may now become China’s.
