County races
COUNTY MAYOR
* Candidates: Incumbent Republican Claude Ramsey is seeking to keep the job he’s held since 1994, using momentum from the county’s economic development to propel him to another term. Richard Ford, his independent opponent, is running as a political outsider who wants to give the “working people” a voice in county government. Ramsey has an extensive political resume and said he has the experience, know-how and the will to serve another term. He favors consolidating city and county services that make sense. Ford said he would give half his salary to charity if elected and wants to address the county’s homeless problem.
* Duties: Serves as chief fiscal officer of the county and makes recommendations to the County Commission
