OSKALOOSA, Iowa (AP) – Bernie Sanders is planning a “major speech” on democratic socialism. That’s the political and economic ideology he embraces in his campaign for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.
Sanders says he hasn’t chosen a date. But aides say he welcomes the opportunity to address the issue after Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton brought it up at the debate in Las Vegas last week.
Clinton suggested that Sanders would scale back the principles of capitalism and said that to do so would be a “grave mistake.”
Sanders often speaks about the expansive social programs of some European democracies as a model for the U.S. In the debate, he talked about Denmark.
He campaigned in Iowa on Monday.
