The city of Lakesite will name the chair and vice chair of its board of commissioners at its next meeting Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.The Soddy-Daisy City Commission cancelled its meeting Thursday, Dec. 15 and will hold its next meeting at City Hall Thursday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m.
As new members of the boards of commissioners in the cities of Red Bank and Soddy-Daisy took their oaths of office and settled into their seats for the first time, they, along with veteran commissioners, decided who will take on the top leadership roles in their respective municipalities.
After Soddy-Daisy Judge Clarence Shattuck swore in newly elected Commissioner Max Lowe and re-elected Commissioners Geno Shipley and Jim Adams, the board voted unanimously to name Robert Cothran the city’s new mayor.
“The city’s in real good shape right now, and we’re going to keep doing what we’re doing to make Soddy-Daisy better,” said Cothran, when asked what his goals are as the mayor of Soddy-Daisy.
This will be Cothran’s third year on the commission and his first time as the city’s mayor. He takes the helm from former Mayor Rick Nunley, who remains on the board. Adams, who has been on the commission for several decades and previously served as mayor, was named vice mayor.
New Red Bank City Commissioner Carol Rose joined the rest of the board in voting to retain John Roberts as the city’s mayor and Eddie Pierce as vice mayor.
Roberts commented that the city has made great strides since he took office, and added that this will be his final term as mayor. He has been mayor of Red Bank since 2012, when he was named to the post after the former mayor, the late Monty Millard, was defeated by former Commissioner Rick Causer in the November election.
Pierce was elected to the board in 2012 and has been the city’s vice mayor since 2014.
