An abundance of new residential development in the East Hamilton area is growing community need for a new middle school, fire station and more, Hamilton County Commissioner Sabrena Smedley told a crowded room during a recent community meeting.
And, with two new proposed developments along Ooltewah-Ringgold Road and East Brainerd Road, that need will only continue to grow.
“In a couple of years, Apison and the surrounding area are going to look very different,” Smedley said. “There is tremendous growth out here and what we are finding more and more is that there is a lot of development going on with the unincorporated [territory] too.”
Several of those developments will be the subject of upcoming community meetings.
Monday, Aug. 1, James Pratt, the developer for a proposed project along the 10300 block of East Brainerd Road, will present his development concept to the community at Shelter Church. The 80-acre property is zoned as A-1, for agricultural use. He is requesting R-1 PUD zoning for the 248 lots, which allows for more varied lot sizes.
