Happy Earth Day, outdoorspeople!

  • Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 68, rain/ Sunday; high 70, partly cloudy
  • Recommended adventure: Learn to skateboard. This Saturday, as well as on May 1, 15 and 29, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Outdoor Chattanooga is hosting a free 90-minute class to help introduce you to the functional skills of skateboarding, including balancing, pushing, turning, park etiquette and how to fall safely. Online reservations are required. Call 423-643-6888 to learn more.
  • Most interesting thing we recently learned: Caves cannot reach depths of more than about 9,800 feet – otherwise, pressure from the rocks would cause them to collapse. Still, the deepest known cave, located in Gagra, Georgia near the Middle East, reaches only about 7,200 feet. Ready to explore more? This week, the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater is offering special screenings of its new groundbreaking film “Ancient Caves.” Learn more here.
