Republicans bought by ‘Big Business’

In Friday’s Metro section there was s a headline article “Candidates slam state regulators.” From the first paragraph of that article, I quote: “Tennessee Republican gubernatorial candidates Thursday attacked the Bredesen administration’s enforcement of environmental laws saying state regulators put obstacles in the way of business development.”

These candidates, as well as national Republicans, have been bought and paid for by “Big Business.” It is the same big business that keeps wages low, continually cuts benefits and lays people off.

Do Tea Party members really support this?

Is White House changing history?

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (Feb. 12) quoted the New York Times: “The United States is likely to add an average of 95,900 more jobs each month … according to a White House report.”

The words “White House” stand out like a bull in a china shop. Within three months of the next election, we will probably be getting a report from the White House telling us that Obama is creating 95,900 more jobs each day.

If you pick up a copy of the book “1984” by George Orwell, you will see a shocking parallel to Obama’s administration. In the book, history was changed to meet the goals of Big Brother. The statistics on job creation, amount of food available, and goods produced, as well as the popularity of Big Brother to his constituents, was grossly inflated to keep down insurrection.

God help us! When are we as Americans going to wake up and reclaim our country and the Constitution on which it was created?

Cancer treatments show need for blood

The feature article (B2, Feb. 22) presented a compelling argument for the need for blood donors. Blood transfusions are needed to replenish red blood cells that are killed off by chemotherapy.

I am deeply moved by the decision of the members of Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson’s church to hold a blood drive in his honor. That he would choose to make use of his difficult situation to encourage others to give blood is very special!

On Monday, Feb. 15, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to donate plasma and platelets at the Blood Assurance central facility. Perhaps my product which was derived via apheresia will have gone to one or more cancer patients recovering from chemotherapy.

Because of Sheriff Wilson’s history of being a blood donor and his advising work with Blood Assurance, I should not be surprised by his willingness to participate in the Feb. 24 drive. I hope it has proved to be a success.

I am also pleased to know Lacey Wilson of Blood Assurance. She is so dear. I’m sorry this issue has struck so close to her.
