For humans, spring is a time to put away the heavy clothes of winter in favor of a lighter, less-confining wardrobe. The same is true of pets, who benefit from the first post-winter groom, said Andrea Killebrew, the owner of Groomingdales on Frazier Avenue.
By getting a jump on scheduling a grooming session before the weather is consistently warm, owners are more likely to get the time they want, Killebrew said.
During the first grooming session of the season, groomers will perform deep shampoo and conditioning treatments, she said.
In addition to leaving the coat cleaner and healthier, grooming can help detect skin conditions that may have developed during the winter months. Shorter coats are also less likely to accumulate pollen, which benefits both pet and owner, Killebrew said.
Just like their owners, pets leave the groomer noticeably refreshed, Killebrew added.
“They look more comfortable. They like to strut their stuff out the door. You can really tell the difference between a dog that has been out in the yard and one that has been groomed.”
