LeSar opens new office in Chattanooga
Dr. Christopher LeSar, a longtime vascular surgeon in Chattanooga, has opened his own private practice under the name of Vascular Institute of Chattanooga at 2358 Lifestyle Way in East Brainerd.
“After seeing thousands of patients, and seeing the many changes in delivery of healthcare, I realized that making the leap into private practice was ultimately better for my patients’ overall care and treatment experience,” LeSar said. “With our new facility, which we call VIC for short, we have easy ground-floor access and a beautiful, spacious facility to accommodate the many needs of our patients.”
Dr. LeSar is sub-specialized in endovascular care, surgery inside blood vessels. He has particular expertise in salvaging legs, feet and toes that may otherwise be amputated. Dr. LeSar is also a nationally and internationally recognized expert in this therapeutic care and actively trains surgeons around the nation and beyond.
As an outpatient vascular facility that is owned and operated by a private medical provider, VIC is the first of its kind in the region.

Marcum receives genetics certification
Catherine Marcum has received certification as an advanced genetics nurse with a specialty in adult cancer from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. She is one of approximately 50 with this certification in the United States.
Dr. Marcum works in CHI Memorial’s Cancer Risk and Survivorship Center at the Rees Skillern Cancer Institute and offers cancer risk counseling to help people better understand how their family history of cancer might affect their individual risk.
“The entire experience for oncology genetic testing is designed to improve a person’s understanding of their family history, adjust the appropriate surveillance based on their risk and determine what further actions patients and physicians feel would be beneficial,” said Kathy Dittmar, market director for oncology operations at CHI Memorial. “Catherine’s certification as an advanced genetics nurse strengthens that commitment, and it’s making a real impact on this community.”
