For somebody who gives advaice for a living, Barfield didn’t follow the advice of the National Weather Service on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old spent a good hour hitting balls on the range at Black Creek Club in a heat index of 104 degrees.
“Just a little hot,” he joked.
He’ll chill a little bit this weekend when he’s inside on his couch watching the PGA Championship. And he’ll be watching it on Sunday no matter if Tiger Woods is in contention or already back home at Isleworth chilling on his own couch and watching the same tournament.
“I think it’s going to be a good event and with the way young players are playing it’s more interesting and you add Tiger and that just adds to the interest,” Barfield said. “No matter what Tiger does, I’ll be watching.
“I’ll be rooting for Mickelson. I like his attitude, his character, and how he plays the game.”
Barfield was working on his game because he’s not quite as good as he was last summer when he held a 7 handicap. This year, it’s a 9 and he wants to get back to a 7 or better as he hits area public courses such as Bear Trace, Nob North and Canyon Ridge.
“My Dad introduced me to game as kid,” Barfield said. “I played a lot of baseball as a kid, and now it’s golf.”
