Bastardo shines as Lookouts win 7-0

MOBILE, Ala. — Chattanooga starting pitcher Alberto Bastardo took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Lookouts won 7-0 over the Mobile BayBears on Monday.

Bastardo’s no-hitter ended with a one-out double to center field by Mobile’s Ed Easley. Bastardo worked seven innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out seven.

Scott Van Slyke had an RBI single and Trayvon Robinson scored on a wild pitch to give the Lookouts (16-21) a 2-0 lead in the second inning, and they broke it open with five in the third, highlighted by Mike Rivera’s RBI double to center and Eddy Perez’s two-run single to center.

Games three and four of a five-game series in Mobile are tonight, with the first seven-inning game beginning at 6:05 EDT. Chris Withrow (1-2, 6.75 ERA) and Timothy Sexton (2-1, 3.68) are the scheduled starting pitchers for Chattanooga, with Pat McAnaney (1-4, 6.75) and Bryan Shaw (0-1, 6.75) scheduled for the BayBears.

Infielder Alfredo Amezaga, who spent the past four seasons in the majors with the Florida Marlins, joined the Lookouts on Monday. Amezaga played at least 125 games each year with Florida from 2006 to ’08, hitting .260, .263 and .264. Making room for Amezaga was Anthony Hatch, who was sent down to high Single-A Inland Empire after hitting .208 in 30 Double-A games.
