It’s a long way to college football’s finish line for the 2018 recruiting cycle, and that’s a very good thing for Georgia.
The Bulldogs are down to just two commitments for their next signing class following Monday’s decommitment of linebacker Donovan Georges, a three-star prospect from Hialeah, Fla. Georgia had seven commitments this time last year, when Kirby Smart’s first full recruiting cycle as head coach yielded a top-five class.
“This will be a very important summer for me, and I look forward to it,” the 6-foot, 237-pound Georges posted on social media. “I would like for everyone to respect my decision.”
Georgia is currently 75th in the 247Sports.com team rankings, which is last among the Southeastern Conference schools. The Bulldogs have some company within the league, as Alabama has two commitments as well and ranks 62nd.
Auburn (26th) and Florida (32nd) also are off to relatively slow starts by their recent standards.
The only commitments for the Bulldogs right now for 2018 are Atlanta three-star cornerback Chris Smith (5-11, 170) and Norcross two-star kicker Jake Camarda (6-2, 175).
