SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Millions of Californians have seen their lawns covered in ash and air filled with smoke as firefighters battle ferocious wildfires in the northern and southern parts of the state.

The fast-moving blazes have produced a thick haze that still hovered Tuesday over densely-populated areas.

Many schools kept students indoors and air quality agencies issued smoke advisories calling on residents to limit outdoor activity.

At Disneyland, visitors snapped photos of hazy, orange skies late Monday that gave an ominous glow to the theme park. Ash fell like snow over portions of coastal Orange County.
