Chattanooga: Cause unknown in morning fire

Chattanooga fire investigators are working to determine what caused a house fire on Rawlings Street today.

Smoke and flames were visible from the front of the house when firefighters responded to a 11:49 a.m. alarm. They soon controlled the fire at 2014 Rawlings St., but the damage was extensive, according to Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner.

Eyewitnesses told Chattanooga firefighters that a 23-year-old woman – a resident of the house – intentionally set the house on fire. Fire investigators are looking into those allegations as part of their investigation, Garner said.

The 23-year-old woman was transported to Parkridge Medical Center by Hamilton County Emergency Services, but firefighters on the scene didn’t characterize her injuries as serious, officials said.
