An 18-year-old Chattanooga man fled from a police officer while driving on Interstate 75 on Tuesday night, crashed into another vehicle, went airborne in the median and then ditched the car and tried to run away, according to police.
Keyshawn Kidd faces 10 charges in the incident, including driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
A Chattanooga police officer initially attempted to stop Kidd when the officer clocked him driving 80 mph in a 55-mph zone around 10 p.m. on I-75 in Brainerd, according to a police affidavit.
Kidd sped up and crossed several lanes of traffic, according to the officer. He rear-ended another driver, went airborne into the median and then kept driving, eventually ending up back on the road, the officer reported.
The officer stopped to check on the driver of the second vehicle, who was not injured. Kidd continued to drive east on East Brainerd Road, getting off the interstate at exit 3A.
A few minutes later, police found Kidd walking on Durham Drive. An officer pulled his car in front of Kidd and ordered him to stop, but he ran. Two officers pursued and yelled for him to stop. He stopped across the street from his vehicle, which had been parked off the road at 1259 Radmoore Circle.
Officers shot Kidd with a stun gun before he was taken into custody.
Police found a bottle of prescription pills with the label peeled off as well as a bag of marijuana with several smaller bags of marijuana inside inside Kidd’s car.
He was charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, evading arrest, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, financial responsibility, leaving the scene of an accident and drugs for resale.
He was still in custody Wednesday at the Hamilton County Jail.
