Watts Bar restarted after Unit 2 trips
America’s newest nuclear reactor returned to service Friday after control rod problems caused the unit to trip Monday following a refueling outage.
TVA spokesman Scott Brooks said Friday that Watts Bar Unit 2 was back up online after trip Monday.
“Watts Bar Unit 2 returned to service around 2 a.m. this morning and is in power ascension right now. It was at about 26 percent as of this morning, but I’m sure that’s gone up by now. Not sure when it will be at full power. It was tripped offline manually early Monday morning, Dec. 11 after an issue with the control rods. Plant safety systems responded as designed.”
TechTown gains use of Autodesk software
TechTown, the Chattanooga technology and entrepreneurial learning center, is partnering with Autodesk software solutions for educational programs.
Autodesk is offering their full software suite to TechTown so local students, educators and other organizations can experiment and create with the same software that designs buildings, smart phones, movie characters and high-performance vehicles, said Mike Harrell, chairman of the TechTown Foundation board.
“Autodesk software is used by professionals in STEM fields globally, and bringing it to Chattanooga’s children will unlock a wealth of career opportunities for them as they move from school to the workforce,” he said.
Chris Ramsey, CEO of TechTown, termed the partnership with Autodesk “a game changer for students in our community.”
