A DeKalb County, Ala., grand jury has indicted a man for a 20-year-old rape of a teenage girl.
Sheriff Jimmy Harris says a woman alerted deputies to the two-decade-old crime after reading that Christopher Todd Richey had been arrested in April for a similar crime against a young woman.
The al-leged victim of the 1990 rape was examined by a rape counselor and had evidence collected, the sheriff said. On Thursday, the grand jury opted to indict Richey, 43, of Grove Oak, Ala.
The man turned himself in to deputies the same day and later posted a $50,000 bond and was released from jail.
In April he was charged with two counts of rape in the first degree related to a similar case involving a victim under 16 years old, the sheriff said.
In Sequatchie County, Tenn., deputies are investigating an unrelated home invasion and assault of a young woman near Whitwell Mountain.
The girl was taken for medical treatment to neighboring Marion County, said Marion County Sheriff Bo Burnett. He said the girl was treated for her injuries and taken to the rape crisis center in Chattanooga for examination.
No other details were available, and a reporter’s call to investigators in Sequatchie County was not returned Friday afternoon.
