THIS WEEK IN EDUCATION NEWS

In case you missed it, last week the Times Free Press took a look at some of the worst school facilities in Hamilton County.

Barger Academy of Fine Arts, Chattanooga School for Liberal Arts, East Ridge Middle and High and Tyner Academy are among them, according to a report from a consulting group that was unveiled to the Hamilton County Board of Education and Hamilton County Commission in July.

But how does a school become “one of the worst”? What does it look like inside a school with a “poor” or “failing” building?

Times Free Press reporters and photographers went inside these schools and many others. We met with principals and teachers, even talked with coaches and students, and we attended three of the five community meetings hosted earlier this month.

Check out our report, “State of Our Schools,” for what we found and keep reading for more of this week’s top education stories!
