Power crews with Volunteer Energy Cooperative worked into the night Saturday to restore power to about 2,5o0 customers in Meigs County, McMinn County, Cleveland and Crossville, Tenn.
Decatur, Tenn., was worst hit by the lightning storm that struck about 7 p.m., Volunteer Energy spokesman Robert McCarty said.
High winds and heavy rain knocked down trees and power lines while lightning hit some of Volunteer Energy Cooperative equipment, McCarty said.
The cooperative had 24 men working on the outage around 9:30 p.m. and had more crews coming in, he said.
All power was expected to be restored by midnight, he said.
A fallen tree that had blocked Abel Street in Decatur had been cleared away and all roads were open by around 9:30, dispatchers said.
