After eight years of being tucked away on Mississippi Avenue, Signal Mountain Cookie Lady Sandie Benson has moved her shop to 1217 Taft Highway. She plans to hold a grand reopening celebration Saturday, Nov. 9 starting at 10 a.m.
“I wanted to come over here for the visibility and the room,” said Benson, whose new kitchen is twice the size of the three rooms put together that she used to work in.
The added space allows her to now offer giant cookie cakes in sugar, chocolate chip or chocolate flavors decorated with a theme of the customer’s choice. Each giant cookie cake feeds 18-20 people, she said.
She continues to offer regular cookies in chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, gingerbread and assorted seasonal varieties. Prepackaged and custom gift buckets are available with cookies, candy and a juice box or coffee or hot chocolate.
Benson has expanded her workforce from four employees to six plus a part-time worker, and she plans to add another employee soon, she said.
She has also extended her hours, staying open until 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday instead of 4 p.m., and also opening on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
