Greetings, outdoorspeople!
- Weekend forecast: Saturday; high 87, comfortable/ Sunday; high 85, mix of sun and clouds
- Recommended adventure: Save the date for the 4th annual C.A.S.T. for Kids at Harrison Bay, helping enrich the lives of children with special needs through a day of fishing and fellowship. Volunteers are needed to help both on shore and on the water. Experienced volunteers, who own a motorboat and can demonstrate proper fishing techniques, are especially needed. The event takes place at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Learn more here.
- Most interesting thing we recently learned: China just banned children from playing online games for more than three hours a week.
A Different Perspective
My fiance’s mother stayed with us last summer from July through September.
At the time, Alex and I lived in a 600-square-foot, one-bedroom cabin. We didn’t even have a kitchen, so we did our cooking outside on a dusty stovetop, our free-range chickens gathered at our feet like puppies. (Don’t worry, we’ve since built ourselves a real, indoor kitchen.)
To complicate matters, she spoke little English, and I spoke little Spanish.
