City urged to take care of appearance
I agree with the recent letter to the TFP about the need to improve the appearance of downtown Chattanooga.
Five years ago, my wife and I were drawn to retire here largely due to the attractiveness of the city. Lately, I have become disheartened by the decreasing attention and care to the downtown and surrounding areas, such as tree trimming, not raking the mulch placed at the base of the trees on our streets, trash in our city streets and highways, and graffiti.
I have occasionally voluntarily obtained color samples and painted over graffiti on buildings. Why aren’t the owners taking care of their own properties?
I am reminded of an Argentine saying, “When you paint your village, you paint the world.” Walt Disney viewed quality on the basis of “good show/bad show.” Come on, Chattanoogans! Let’s take greater pride by “painting our village” and maintaining Chattanooga not only as a good show, but the best!
