The city of Red Bank is preparing for the possibility of a microbrewery in the city. The City Commission discussed the idea at its work session Oct. 16 in response to interest by Carter Distributing in opening a microbrewery in Red Bank.
The city would have to change the allowable uses within its C-1 commercial zone to include bottling beer, said Mayor John Roberts. Changing the zoning ordinance would only allow for the packaging of the beer on the property, not for consuming alcohol or tasting on premises, he said.
“The beer regulations will have to be changed,” City Manager Randall Smith said at the work session. “Cities all across the country are now kind of wrestling with this.”
Before the zoning ordinance can be changed, Roberts said the matter would have to go before the Planning Commission Nov. 4, and then it will have to pass two votes before the City Commission.
