Barry Wayne in Dayton

Nashville-based country/gospel singer Barry Wayne will be in concert tonight at 7 at Bimbo’s Restaurant, 7606 Rhea County Highway, Dayton, Tenn.

According to his website, Wayne began his career in country music, sharing the stage with David Allan Coe, Hank Thompson, Roni Stoneman and others. His abuse of drugs and alcohol led him to the Savior, he said, and he turned to gospel music, working with the Fox Brothers. Offstage, he spent five years working with troubled youth before embarking on a solo career.

Wayne has spent the last decade as a full-time singing evangelist. He toured with The New Hinsons, and has co-written songs with Ronnie Hinson, Chuck Day and Mike Manuel.

In 2007, he was named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Gospel Music Guild and was inducted into the International Country Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame. His previous awards from the two groups include the ICGMA’s Best New Male Vocalist in 2000 and the CGMG’s Best Male Vocalist in 2005 and Best Instrumentalist in 2006 and 2007.
