Work needed fast to fix potholes
I am a frequent traveler of two main thoroughfares in Chattanooga and Hamilton County that are in much need of repair.
The first is Hickory Valley Road, directly off Lee Highway. The pot holes are so deep they are a danger to the tires on my car. The second is Mountain View Road near Ooltewah High School. This road is heavily traveled and in much need of repair. I ask for attention to these dangerous routes in our city and county.

Thanks for many memories, WFLI
It is sad to read of the demise of radio station WFLI, even though I have not listened to the station in many years and can only get AM broadcasts on the car radio. Back in late 1960 or early 1961, before WFLI went on the air for the first time, Jim Grainger, Jack Wright and I visited the station when we were out exploring the area off Brown’s Ferry Road and Elder Mountain Road, and found O’Grady Drive and the new radio station. Jim and Jack are gone now, and the radio station is too. Thanks for the memories. Anybody remember the Morris Mini Minor?

Trump’s arrogance, ignorance exposed
Welcome to Washington, Mr. Trump! He insisted he “would be so good we would get tired of it.” His arrogance and ignorance have been exposed. People who believe he can keep all his promises are naive. The “deal-maker” couldn’t repeal Obamacare as promised. It was a catastrophic defeat!
Republicans voted 60 times in seven years to repeal the ACA but couldn’t write an acceptable bill. Thank God it wasn’t passed! The bill would have devastated the American people’s health care while enriching the rich and insurance companies. It was corporate welfare.
His first 100 days are nothing like any other president’s. He has no government experience; it shows. He has already cost the taxpayers $51 million for trips to Florida. Giving his daughter and son-in-law access to top secrets and appointing Cabinet members committed to destroying the departments they head are frightening.
Attacking the press as “America’s enemy” and accusing Obama of wiretapping are not signs of a rational person. There’s a cloud over the White House with the criminal investigation regarding Russia, and Trump’s threatening China and North Korea is dangerous.
God help us if he’s not controlled by responsible people!

Music classes offer more than a song
I find it odd that music in schools isn’t fully supported anymore as it was in the past. In order to be a good musician, you have to multitask constantly and read music, which sometimes is just dots on a line, so memorization is required. You also must count inside your head, which can change drastically. You must pay attention to the director and a plethora of other requirements.
Yet some music organizations in schools are considered as if nothing is accomplished through those classes. Students will make more friends and also gain key skills for their future lives. The music industry is dying because the counties aren’t funding the programs that need funds as equally as, say, football and baseball.
