ArtsBuild hires Wroth, Lawrence
Sallie Lawrence has joined ArtsBuild as director of finance.
Lawrence comes to ArtsBuild with more than 20 years of experience with arts organizations in Atlanta, including 10 years as the Director of Finance at the Alliance Theater, and nine years as senior financial analyst with the Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center. After moving to Chattanooga several years ago, Sallie worked as an accountant with Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.
Kathryn Wroth also has joined ArtsBuild as director of development.
Wroth joined the ArtsBuild staff in November. She spent 12 years in fundraising and development for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation in Santa Fe, N.M. Most recently, she worked with the Nashville Symphony as senior patron engagement officer and director of the annula fund. She has a B.A. degree in music and art from DePauw University and an M.A. degree in arts administration from Indiana University in Bloomington.
New executive heads Mountain Education Fund
The board of the Mountain Education Foundation has named Hilarie Hicks Robison as executive director.
Robison recently relocated to the mountain from Southern Nevada, where she had a long history of nonprofit work, including as executive director of the statewide Nevada Public Education Foundation. A third-generation native of Las Vegas, Robison graduated summa cum laude from Brigham Young University, later earning a Master’s in Ethics and Policy Studies. Over the last 20 years, her professional career spanned roles in government agencies, education and non-profits, including the development of award-winning programs that gained national attention.
Board Chair Sarah Bernard, along with other volunteer Board members, conducted a search process that lasted approximately two months.
“We are thrilled to have Ms. Robison join MEF,” Bernard said. “Her background with the education foundation in Nevada makes her ideally suited to the position, and we look forward to a bright future under her leadership.”
Robison, too, is optimistic about the future in Signal Mountain: “We have received such a warm welcome and are grateful to be here on this beautiful mountain in this remarkable community.”
She and her husband are the parents of two children, both of whom attend Signal Mountain public schools.
Robison replaces former Executive Director Katie Hanners, who is now the Director of Development for the Creative Discovery Museum in downtown Chattanooga.
Second Life Chattanooga adds Evatt to its board
Second Life Chattanooga, a nonprofit organization that focuses on ending human trafficking in greater Chattanooga and Southeast Tenn., has added Paige Evatt to its board of directors.
“Paige is passionate about raising awareness of human trafficking in our community, but more importantly, she is passionate about helping survivors,” said Jerry Redman, chief executive officer for Second Life Chattanooga.
Evatt is the pro bono project director for Legal Aid of East Tennessee’s Chattanooga office and has been affiliated with Second Life for nearly four years. Evatt previously served as a staff attorney working under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), a grant assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with their civil legal needs.
“I have seen, first hand, the impact Second Life makes by providing client services, educating the community and by collaborating with other local agencies,” said Evatt. “During my time on the board, I want to increase community outreach and expand to more rural areas surrounding Chattanooga, and I want to see survivor services strengthened. That process is already well underway, and I am thrilled to be part of making our community a safer place for everyone and to provide hope and healing to survivors.”
Evatt is an active member of the Chattanooga Coalition against Human Trafficking, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Chattanooga Bar Association and the Bradley County Bar Association. She was a past president of the Chattanooga Chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae Association and was awarded the Girls, Inc. Unbought and Unbossed Award in 2017.
