Firefighters raced to Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home after a fire and explosion torched its second floor, according to Dayton Fire Department Chief Charles Suttles.
The chief said he didn’t know the cause of the fire, which was reported at 5:55 p.m. It started in a closet and worked its way around the second floor, blasting off plaster and brick, Suttles said.
There were no reported injuries, and no bodies were damaged, Suttles said.
The lower floor, “where business is conducted,” didn’t suffer any damage, he said.
“The damage was very insignificant in the overall scheme of things, what it could have been,” Suttles said
Suttles said it was unclear whether services are on today.
