The kids aren’t the only ones who should get a break this spring. Shae off all that snow and take a deep breath — then go somewhere new to welcome the warmer weather. No matter what destination you have in mind, we’ve got options for your next romantic, adventurous or family-friendly getaway.
Asheville, N.C.
This eclectic mountain town is a favorite among Chattanoogans, perhaps because it reminds us a bit of home. With the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, a fantastic food scene and plenty of ways to stay entertained, how could it not? And, as a bonus, it’s only 3.5 hours away by car.
ROMANCE TIPS: Forgo the traditional hotel and book a room in one of Asheville’s quaint and cozy bed and breakfasts. Cedar Crest Inn is a good choice; it was voted TripAdvisor’s most romantic lodging in Asheville. While you’re there, take a stroll downtown and be spontaneous. The city has a plethora of sidewalk cafés and wine bars. Plus, it has The Chocolate Fetish with its award-winning sweet treats. A word of advice, gentlemen: chocolate truly is the way to your lady’s heart.
HAVE AN ADVENTURE: If you traverse far enough into the North Carolina wilderness, you’ll find the highlight of your trip-a natural water slide. Thrill seekers can slip their way down Sliding Rock in the Pisgah National Forest or take a turn on the area’s zip line canopy tours, while outdoor enthusiasts can get lost on the hiking and biking trails. Either way, most explorations will lead to a breathtaking view from one of the many overlooks.
