Protect public lands from privatization

I am writing in hopes of getting the word out to the public about the protection of our public lands.

Regardless of anyone’s political stance, one thing that most agree on is the preservation of our wild lands. Who doesn’t like to hike, bike, raft, hunt, fish, camp, climb, etc?

We need to unite and urge Sens. Corker and Senator Alexander to defend our bedrock environmental laws from attacks from Congress.

Our public lands, forests, rivers and wildlife are currently protected by a variety of laws, however, those rules can easily be changed. If those lands become privatized, we will not have access to the parks for recreational use.

Anyone interested in getting involved in the protection of our lands can attend the “Protect Our Parks Campaign Kickoff Meeting” today from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Edney Innovation Center, 1100 Market St., on the 5th floor.

Fed up voters willing to give Trump a chance

Donald Trump was elected not necessarily because voters thought he was of the best character or the most qualified, but in my opinion because a large portion of the country was fed up with the status quo of political correctness, corruption and overreach of the government at all levels.

I have voted for alternative candidates since Ross Perot, voted for Ron Paul at every opportunity I had, voted for Obama twice thinking perhaps he needed more time, which turned out to be a bust. Trump might turn out to be a bust as well, but if so there is no one to blame but our current leadership trying to micromanage the country and force unpopular minority opinions on the majority.

Yes, I voted for Trump. I had no choice. Hillary? Really?

Inauguration preview underplayed by TFP

Let me be clear. I do not think either candidate was qualified for president of the United States, but I was appalled with your Jan. 20 front page.

The inauguration has been a time-honored, legal ceremony on Jan. 20 since 1937 for the swearing in of the president of the United States by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

This is one of the most important ceremonies in our nation’s history. And what were your headlines of this day? In bold headlines, “The Parking Predicament New Study to Seek Downtown Solutions.” Also, “Board considers in-house busing.” Really? Neither of these stories was dire and neither has any solutions to report, just “more talk” that you seem to announce as more important than the inauguration. What an affront to the citizens of this area hoping for the coverage you claim to give “impartially without fear or favor” and finding the preview of the inauguration in the lower right-hand corner of the front page, with brief coverage continued on page A6. What a failure.
