J&J Contractors will renovate facilities at the former Cavalier Corp. site on Central Avenue this year to convert the former manufacturing site into EPB’s maintenance facility by November.
EPB directors on Friday approved a nearly $5.9 million contract for the construction work. EPB Vice President Steve Clark said the contract is more than the $5 million initially budgeted for the work, in part, because of additional site preparation and cleanup of the land and buildings on the 11-acre site.
The city-owned utility bought the Cavalier site in 2009 to relocate its truck and equipment fleet along with nearly 150 employees from EPB’s site at Oak Street and Greenwood.
