Chattanooga State campus grows

Our community is extremely fortunate to have both the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Community College here, offering different focuses for the education of our people.

Now there is good news that Chattanooga State plans to add 15 acres to its Amnicola Highway campus along the Tennessee River. There will be room for eventual dormitory construction and course expansion for bachelor’s degrees.

But Chattanooga State does not plan to duplicate or compete with UTC’s programs.

“I don’t know of anything bigger that’s happened to Chattanooga State,” President Jim Catanzaro said.

The land currently is owned by Olan Mills. Land acquisition and other aspects of the project will cost $15.5 million all told, with some money coming from a Tennessee Board of Regents grant, some from Wacker Chemical (which will use part of the space to train future employees) and some from Chattanooga State.
