A man was apprehended after a high-speed motorcycle chase on Interstate 75 and Interstate 24 Sunday morning, according to Georgia State Patrol.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over 27-year-old Ethan Hicks of Hixson, Tennessee for a tag violation on I-75 northbound near mile marker 347, according to a release from Cpl. Michael Best. Hicks sped away, traveling at approximately 140 miles per hour, an officer said over police radio.
He weaved through westbound traffic, nearly striking several vehicles as he drove “extremely recklessly,” the officer said. Hicks crossed the state line into Tennessee and took I-24 west at the split. He crashed into the median near exit 180B shortly after 8 a.m.
Hicks tossed a backpack over the median into eastbound traffic and ran into the woods. A trooper chased the suspect and used a stun gun to subdue and apprehended him.
The backpack contained a handgun, drugs and drug-related objects, according to Best. Hicks was charged with felony counts for fleeing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during certain crimes. He was also charged with possession of drug related objects, speeding in a construction zone, reckless driving, no tag and multiple other traffic charges.
He was taken in an ambulance to Erlanger for minor injuries, according to Best.
