For $5, guests have the opportunity to peruse 35 vendors with a variety of items from collectible action figures to rare comics, video games and more, said event creator and coordinator Rocky Spurlock.
Inspired by the sudden death of a friend of nearly two decades last February, Spurlock tried his hand at his late friend Jared Allen’s passion: comic events.
Allen, who wrestled under the name Jay Farley, lives on through the name of the event, Spurlock said.

The inaugural event was held last spring to raise funds for Allen’s widow and children. Spurlock hopes to make it an annual tradition and see it grow into a bigger space.
“I’d like to see it grow too big for the building we’re in,” he said. “We’re pushing the limit to the East Ridge Center as it is.”
The dream, he said, is a multi-day event at Camp Jordan and an increased number of celebrity guests – at a more affordable price than many other similar events, which can cost a great deal more to attend.
This year, celebrity guests include a member of the cast of “Ant-Man,” graphic artists, writers and novelists and more.
“Old comics, new comics, we’ve got them all,” he said. “Vendors are coming from all over.”
The expo is Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Ridge Community Center, located at 1517 Tombras Ave.
