Bob Elmore

What Chattanoogan has loved, enjoyed and promoted Chattanooga more than Robert A. “Bob” Elmore, who died Thursday at a still-young and enthusiastic age of 85?

Bob “grew up running,” graduating from Central High School on Dodds Avenue in 1943, serving in World War II and then graduating from the University of Chattanooga in 1949.

He was an enthusiastic member of the Jaycees when they were at their peak of local civic boosterism. And he continued that kind of youthful activity throughout his life.

Do you remember when he had his “Billy Bragger” promotion for our city, when he hosted the weekly “Jaycee Question of the Week,” “Backyard Safari” and “Discover Chattanooga” radio and TV programs?

He was president of the Jaycees in the 1960s and headed the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau as the “ultimate booster” of our city.

Bob, as he was known to all, was one of our city’s most enthusiastic good citizens.
