Labor Day weekend kicks off the unofficial start to fall, says Nick Kyriakidis, co-owner of Acropolis Mediterranean Grill, family-owned for more than 35 years. And with that shift comes better weather and richer flavor, he adds.

At Acropolis, the end-of-summer season highlights a few of the grill’s best-known flavors. An example is the braised lamb shank, served over Parmesan risotto with grilled asparagus and tomato broth. Lamb, a signature Mediterranean flavor, is featured on Acropolis’ menu year-round.

But, helping to whet that autumnal appetite, this weekend Acropolis introduces a couple of new cooler-weather specials. First is the pecan-crusted North Carolina trout, served over roasted red potatoes and finished with warm bacon and tomato spinach salad. Second is pan-seared shrimp-and-scallop mac and cheese, made with cavatappi pasta in a smoked Gouda cheese sauce and topped with chopped tomatoes and bacon.

Between the richness of Acropolis’ lamb and the warmth of its seafood specials, any one of the restaurant’s dishes perfectly complements the cooler days ahead.

“It’s finally patio season again,” said Nick, nodding to Acropolis’ covered outdoor seating.
