Hamilton County Commissioner Joe Graham says he wants to give $100,000 in discretionary funds back to the county rainy day fund.

Commissioners voted in June to pull a combined $900,000 out of the county’s savings account to use for discretionary spending after Mayor Jim Coppinger had left the spending program out of the budget.

Coppinger vetoed the budget as amended by the commission saying there was not a revenue stream to support discretionary spending. But that veto was overruled.

Graham was the only commissioner who voted against the amended budget.

Graham presented the resolution today during an agenda session.

“I’m just asking my fellow commissioners to help me do the right thing here, and maybe some of you will want to do the same,” Graham said.

The commission will vote on the resolution next week, during its regular meeting.
