The Tennessee Aquarium today is being honored in Washington, D.C., for its contributions to the area as it receives the 2009 National Medal for Museum and Library Service from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The medal is the highest honor museums and libraries receive for civic, educational, economic, environmental, and social contributions.
“The Tennessee Aquarium is deeply honored to be one of only four aquariums ever to receive the national medal and is proud of its long history of service to Chattanooga and the surrounding region,” said Charlie Arant, the aquarium’s chief executive.
