The Chattanooga Lookouts have not had much to celebrate during the second half of this Southern League season.

Sunday provided such a cause.

Facing the team with the league’s best record, the Lookouts won two games Sunday afternoon against the Montgomery Biscuits at AT&T Field. The first was a completion of Saturday night’s contest that was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning with Chattanooga trailing 7-1, but the Lookouts scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to win 8-7.

Chattanooga scored 10 runs in the first three innings of the second game, which had been shortened to seven innings, and cruised to a 10-5 triumph.

The Lookouts had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth when Saturday’s game was called due to rain and lightning, and they capitalized Sunday when Stuart Fairchild, Jonathan India and Gavin LaValley drove in runs to make it a 7-4 game. Michael Beltre’s two-run home run to right-center highlighted Chattanooga’s four-run sixth that ultimately proved to be the difference.

LaValley launched a grand slam to left-center during the first inning of Sunday’s regularly scheduled game and then added an RBI single to center in the second. Samir Duenez and Brantley Bell also drove in second-inning runs for the Lookouts, who continued the onslaught in the third with Chris Okey’s homer to left.

The Lookouts wound up scoring 17 runs in 11 innings of action Sunday, with LaValley accounting for seven RBIs.

With the two victories, Chattanooga improved to 58-73 overall this season and to 22-40 in the second half. Montgomery is 85-48, 41-22.

The Lookouts are scheduled to play their final two home games of the 2019 season Monday and Tuesday, with both first pitches against the Biscuits set for 7:15 p.m.
