The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to take a 36-25 halftime lead over Samford on Saturday night at McKenzie Arena.
Freshman Erin Helton provided the Lady Mocs with a huge lift off the bench once Shanara Hollinquest picked up her second foul with 10:18 left in the half. Helton leads the Lady Mocs with 10 points and five rebounds at the break.
Hollinquest, Michelle Davis and Tenisha Townsend have 5 points each for UTC, which will clinch the Southern Conference title outright, and the No. 1 seed in next week’s tournament, with a win. Samford will share the title if it rallies, and claim the top seed by virtue of sweeping UTC.
The Lady Mocs hits just one of their first six shots but finished the half 14 of 28 from the field.
