Throughout the Tennessee-Georgia girls’ basketball all-star game Tuesday night at Notre Dame High School, Hollie German felt she was still playing for Polk County.
For one, she was playing for a team that was largely undersized in the post. Second, her team compensated for that lack of size by pressing, much like her Wildkittens who reached Tennessee’s Class AA final four.
The result was a 60-49 victory by the Tennessee stars, evening the series at 4-all. German was selected most valuable player for a 23-point, seven-rebound, three-assist performance.
“In high school, we were no stranger to being oversized,” she said after the game. “We knew that Georgia had a lot of tall players, so we just kept the pressure up and ran as much as possible.”
Kayla Kelly of Arts & Sciences was named Tennessee Player of the Game with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Rome’s Mauri Wells earned the honors for Georgia with a single-game record 24 points and five rebounds.
