JASPER, Tenn. — After going quietly for the first three innings Monday, Marion County’s hitters made plenty of noise over the next three, giving pitcher Heather Richards more than enough support.
Richards was nearly unhittable and got offensive help from the entire lineup as the Lady Warriors pounded out an 8-1 victory over Silverdale Baptist in a Region 3-A softball semifinal Monday.
Richards carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning and wound up with a two-hitter, allowing only four balls to be hit out of the infield. Every Marion player had at least one hit, including five with doubles.
“We have some really smart hitters,” Marion coach Thomas Long said. “They’re aggressive but also know how to be patient. Like any pitcher, Heather was able to relax once we started giving her some support.”
The Lady Warriors, who have won 15 straight games, will play Wednesday at Grace Academy for the region championship.
