The Museum Center at Five Points in Cleveland, Tenn., has aded a mini-exhibit on Cleveland native Clarence L. Richmond, a World War I hero.

Richmond, who died in 1981, was one of Bradley County’s most highly decorated soldiers. The collection of World War I artifacts donated by his family includes Richmond’s uniform, military medals, photographs and a copy of his war diary.

Richmond enlisted into the Marine Corps in February 1918 at age 23. He was sent to France the following year. He served as a stretcher bearer, carrying the wounded off the battlefield, often under heavy artillery fire. For his heroism along the frontlines, Richmond was promoted from private to corporal and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Navy Cross and the French Croix de Guerre.
