Rep. Wamp right on debt limit

Chattanooga’s U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp was absolutely right in his comment on the ill-advised vote of the House of Representatives last week to raise the federal debt limit by $1.9 trillion.

“We can’t borrow our way out of debt or spend our way into prosperity,” Rep. Wamp said correctly. “The $1.9 trillion debt limit increase keeps us on an unsustainable path of reckless spending.”

Do you remember when we used to pay real attention when there was talk of government spending in the “millions” of dollars? Then spending “billions” of dollars got our attention. Now we are talking about spending “trillions” of dollars — that the government doesn’t have.

Is this financial responsibility — or gross irresponsibility?
