This could be a Dee-lightful season for the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Devaris “Dee” Gordon, the top prospect in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization according to Baseball America, likely will break camp with the Class AA Lookouts barring a setback in spring training. The 21-year-old shortstop hit .301 and stole 73 bases last season in earning Midwest League MVP honors, and he was selected by the Dodgers as their minor league player of the year.
“I’m sure he will put his best foot forward,” Dodgers player development director De Jon Watson said, “and we will see how it shakes out here in a few weeks.”
Minor league camp for the Dodgers starts March 4 for pitchers and March 10 for position players. The first full workout is scheduled for March 11; the first spring games are set for March 19.
The Lookouts open their 2010 Southern League season April 8 against Huntsville at AT&T Field.
