Four students were on a Whitfield County-owned school bus this morning when a fire started in the engine.
None of the children were injured, said Whitfield County schools spokesman Eric Beavers.
He emphasized that the fire was “very small” and the students, who attend North Whitfield Middle School, were quickly taken off the bus when the driver realized there was a problem.
“It’s a vehicle subject to the same kind of problems any of us could have with our cars,” he said. “It’s already in the shop.”
The incident happened about 7:30 a.m. on Manis Road in Dalton, Ga., Beavers said.
Another bus picked the students up and took them to school, he said.
